Founded in 2006, the University of Kurdistan-Hawler seeks Pro-Vice-Chancellors to assist the new Vice-Chancellor in the development and implementation of the University’s strategic plan. The specific portfolios of the PVCs will be geared to the strengths and interests of successful candidates with the primary objective s of establishing research and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes (delivered in English) relevant to the rapidly developing regional and national economy and to producing graduates capable of supporting the emerging government, business, and commercial organisations in Kurdistan. Vacancy Announcement
The University of Kurdistan-Hawler would like to announce an opening within our Administrative department. UK-H is seeking (ONE) person to fill the post outlined hereunder:
Post Title: Cashier
Department: Finance Services Department
Post to which directly responsible: Director of Finance
Purpose of Job: Responsible for cash management, receive income and make payment for approved expenses. Manage staff salary distribution and student monthly allowance distribution.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
1. Receive income made to the university and register the transaction in cash box.
2. Make payments in cash or cheques in accordance with instruction received fro line manger and University Financial Regulations.
3. Maintain cash box register and make sure all transactions are registered.
4. Manage cash in a professional manner.
5. Conduct cash count on weekly bases and at the end of each month.
6. Order cheque books and obtain monthly bank account statement.
7. withdraw money from UKH Bank accounts and deposit it into cash box
8. Make sure stock of receipt and payment vouchers are available.
9. Distribute salaries on monthly bases
10. Prepare Student Allowance list on bimonthly bases and process the distribution.
11. Perform any other duties as required.
Person Specification:
1. Experience of cash management and accounting.
2. Hold a university degree in Accountancy or related degrees.
3. Able to communicate in English language verbally and in writing.
4. Good interpersonal skills,
5. Ability to use Microsoft Word
6. Ability to use Microsoft Excel for data input and the production of reports.
7. Able to work under pressure & remain calm.
8. Able to maintain accurate & up to date records.
9. A team player with a commitment to developing good staff relationships.
10. To be self motivated, enthusiastic & resilient.
11. Knowledge of Higher Education funding arrangements for student fees.

TEACHING POST – SCHOOL OF ACCESS INSTRUCTOR OF MATHEMATICS
The University of Kurdistan-Hawler invites applications for one (1) position as an Instructor of Mathematics in the School of Access, to begin in mid-January 2010. The University’s School of Access provides a two-year, post-secondary programme in English for Academic Purposes and analytical intellectual skills to prepare students for study in university degree programmes. All courses in the School of Access are taught in English.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Instructor of Mathematics will be expected to fulfill university-related duties for, on average, 35-40 hours per week. Duties include:
• Classroom instruction (currently 18 hours per week, with one Basic Mathematics course and one Computing Fundamentals course)
• Attendance of departmental meetings
• Staffing of the School of Access Learning Center
• School of Access entrance / exit exam preparation
• Participation in University committees
• Extracurricular activities, as desired (School of Access instructors are encouraged to develop clubs, activities and events for students outside of class, as time permits)
Please note: The School of Access Instructor of Mathematics is expected to arrive in mid-January 2010 in order to design curricula for the Basic Mathematics and Computing Fundamentals courses to be delivered in the second semester of the academic year. The Instructor will have approximately one month to design these courses, in full consultation with the current Instructor of Mathematics and all School of Access staff.
REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS
The University of Kurdistan-Hawler provides the following benefits:
• Salary of USD 35,352-51,660 per annum (tax free), based on qualifications and experience
• Free accommodation in a fully-furnished apartment (rent and all utilities paid by the University)
• Two economy-class round-trip tickets to home destination per annum
• Six week summer holidays plus three weeks public holidays
• Relocation expenses (up to USD 1,500) at both the beginning and end of the contract period
• Medical allowance (currently USD 1,000 per annum to purchase individual health insurance)
• Child education allowance (contribution to the cost of children’s school tuition in Erbil)
• Minimum 3% salary raise per annum, dependent upon positive performance evaluations
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate for the position of Instructor of Mathematics will have at least one of the following:
• A Master’s degree or higher in Mathematics or a related field from an accredited institution, with experience teaching non-native speakers of English
• A Master’s degree or higher in TESL/TEFL, Education, or a related field from an accredited institution, with experience teaching Mathematics or related subjects
• A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Linguistics, Mathematics or a related field from an accredited institution, with extensive teaching experience. (Evidence of TESL/TEFL training and/or experience will be a plus.)
The preferred candidate for this position will also have:
• A superior level of proficiency in English
• Experience in teaching at the university level, particularly in non-native English speaking environments
• Experience in curriculum development and assessment
• A demonstrated awareness of current trends in teaching methodology, particularly with regard to Content-Based Instruction / Content and Language Integrated Learning
• Some experience with instructional technology and mathematics-related software applications (particularly Microsoft Excel)
• A demonstrated desire and ability to work within a student-centered framework of teaching
• A demonstrated desire and ability to work with peers in a team-based approach to decision-making and curriculum and program design
• A demonstrated desire and ability to assist in building an internationally accredited institution of higher learning with long-term viability in a post-conflict environment
